Academy for Impact through Music
AIM IS A 15-MONTH INTENSIVE LEARNING JOURNEY FOR TEACHING ARTISTS IN THE GLOBAL FIELD OF MUSIC FOR SOCIAL IMPACT. I was a founding advisor and have been a Faculty Member since the program began in 2019 with its first cohort of “Firebird Fellows.” Everyone in this field shares a vision—that music learning can open life opportunities for young people in low-income communities—and AIM’s goal is to addresses the pedagogical challenges that limit the realization of that vision. Through its original and distinctive curriculum, the program delivers rigorous, innovative, holistic training that empowers teaching artists to deliver transformative outcomes for their students. New training initiatives (Fire Up, Chispa, and Firebrand) provide the same kinds of learning as the Firebird Fellowship, in less intensive and more widely usable formats. AIM’s tools are finding their way into the wider field, advancing pedagogical approaches in Latin America, Europe, Africa and North America.
